Hi, I’m Asya!

I'm the owner and lead therapist of The Shift Counseling & Wellness. I'm a proud Wake Forest alumna and Double Deacon (BA '22, MA '24), a National Certified Counselor (NCC), and a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA #A20085) in North Carolina.

One of the things I've noticed, both personally and professionally, is how easy it is to spend our lives trying to get everything "right." That has been especially true for me as a Black woman.

The right decision. The right career. The right relationship. The right timeline. The right version of ourselves.

Many of us grow up believing there's a formula for building a meaningful life. We work hard, meet expectations, take care of others, and keep pushing forward, hoping that if we do everything we're supposed to do, confidence, peace, and fulfillment will eventually follow.

Then one day, we realize we've become so focused on who we thought we were supposed to be that we've stopped asking ourselves who we actually are. That's the work I love.

As a therapist, I don't believe my job is to tell you what to do or decide what's best for your life. I believe my role is to help you question the assumptions you've been carrying, understand what's been shaping your experiences, and build the confidence to make decisions that reflect your values instead of everyone else's expectations.

My approach blends evidence-based counseling with practical action. Together, we'll make sense of your experiences, challenge patterns that no longer serve you, and develop real tools you can use outside of our sessions. Because understanding yourself is important, but insight without action isn't enough.

Professionally, my work is grounded in CBT, DBT, Reality Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, grief counseling, and Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY). Whatever we're working through, my goal is the same: to help you trust yourself enough to build a life that feels like yours.

Outside of the therapy room, I'm a yogi, dog mama, lifelong learner, and a firm believer that growth doesn't come from becoming someone else. It comes from giving yourself permission to become more of who you've been all along.

Because in a world that's constantly telling you who you should be, choosing yourself is one of the most courageous shifts you can make.
