Frequently Asked Questions

Therapy is not, and should not, be only for moments of crisis.

Many people begin therapy because they feel overwhelmed, disconnected, stuck in patterns, emotionally exhausted, or unsure of how to move forward.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting. Therapy can simply be a space to better understand yourself, process what you’ve been carrying, and create more intention in how you move through your life.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Therapy with me is honest, compassionate, and real.

I believe growth happens through a balance of support, accountability, curiosity, and self-reflection. Sessions are collaborative and tailored to your needs, helping you better understand your patterns, reconnect with yourself, and create meaningful shifts within your life that align with who you are, who you want to become, and the kind of life you want to build.

What is therapy with you like?

I primarily work with young adults (18–35) who are navigating anxiety, burnout, grief, trauma, identity development, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, relationship challenges, and the pressure of “holding it all together.”

Many of my clients are used to being the dependable one for others while quietly struggling behind the scenes.

Who do you work with and what do you specialize in?

The Shift Counseling & Wellness currently offers individual therapy sessions for young adults across North Carolina through virtual services.

The Shift also integrates movement-based and trauma-informed approaches, recognizing that healing does not only happen through conversation.

Community-based groups, workshops, and additional wellness offerings will continue to expand as the practice grows.

What services are offered at The Shift?

In-Network: A provider who has a contract with your insurance company and agrees to provide services at negotiated rates.

Out-of-Network: A provider who does not have a contract with your insurance company. Clients may pay out of pocket upfront and use out-of-network benefits for possible reimbursement.

Superbill: A detailed receipt that includes the information many insurance companies require for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Clients can submit this document directly to their insurance provider to determine whether a portion of the session cost may be reimbursed.

Copay: A fixed amount you pay for a healthcare service, usually due at the time of the appointment.

Deductible: The amount you must pay out of pocket for healthcare services before your insurance begins contributing to costs.

Coinsurance: The percentage of costs you may be responsible for after meeting your deductible.

Preauthorization: Approval required by some insurance plans before certain services are covered.

Important Insurance Terminology

The Shift Access Program is a limited pay-what-you-can option designed to support individuals experiencing financial barriers to therapy while still increasing access to care.

This program provides up to 12 sessions over a 3-month period, offered weekly or biweekly beginning from the initial intake date. Shift Access sessions are offered as 45-minute sessions and are intended to provide consistency, structure, and support during a defined period of need.

At the end of the 12 sessions or 3 months (whichever comes first), clients and clinician will discuss next steps, which may include transitioning to self-pay, insurance-based services (if applicable), or referral options.

A small number of reduced-fee spots are reserved for the Shift Access Program in order to maintain the sustainability of the practice while still supporting access to care. Availability is limited to 5 clients per quarter and may change as spots are filled.
